Aloha and welcome to the website of Halau Hula O Na Mauna Komohana, the oldest halau (or hula school) in Boulder.  We are a diverse student and performing group, learning authentic kahiko (ancient) and beautiful ‘auana (modern) hula, while also studying other aspects of Hawaiian culture and tradition. Our hula classes include education in Hawaiian language and chanting as well as Hawaiian history and politics, past and present.  We are dedicated to the preservation and perpetuation of the Hawaiian culture and we enjoy working together to spread the purity of the aloha spirit, both within the halau and in the community.  We very much enjoy collaborating with other halaus in the Colorado area (and beyond, when possible) in order to foster connection and community, which is an important principle in living the Hawaiian way.  Mahalo for your visit and we hope you join our ‘ohana (family) in the future, whether it be as a student, performer, or supporter.

Please enjoy some mele by one of our favorite Hawaiian artists, Amy Hanai’ali’i Gilliom, honoring our Hawaiian king, King Kalakaua.  The words are in English on the video.
